Of all the activities you can do together as a family, going camping can be one of the most memorable, enjoyable and rewarding. As with all family holidays, do your homework. Remember, at school after the holidays, your children will be discussing and comparing their experiences so you need to make it special for them.

First of all check out the area you are planning on staying in. Are there places of interest nearby? You know what will interest your family most.

For smaller children, books on native birds or flowers may interest them for a few days, a visit to a water park, theme park or the seaside will be enough for them to enjoy. Even older children and adults can look forward to these treats.

For the older child the more difficult it may seem at first, but put in some effort and you may surprise them. If you are planning on taking a kid camping anywhere, you must at least  do things which will interest them, but allowing the whole family to join in.  For sports fanatics, maybe a trip to see their favourite team play, if you are in the area. For kids addicted to fantasy games, maybe find an area of interest for legends of fantasy, King Arthur, Robin Hood or standing stones which can be found all over. Do your research before you go, There is nothing worse than spending your whole holiday answering ¨"I don´t know". Film Buffs are also easily catered for, go online and check out what famous films may have had locations nearby. If there is a theatre within travelling distance, try to get tickets for something they would enjoy. You may think that elder girls are the most difficult, but try to accommodate their needs and you will be thoroughly rewarded. You may have to spend at least one day shopping but, if you can find a costume museum or somewhere that has a collection of clothes from  the past, you can have a few hours laughing and wondering about the funny fashions. If all a daughter is interested in is the latest pop stars, see if you can get concert tickets, this may have to be done well in advance, but the rewards can be tremendous.

Taking your kid camping can be a great family time, plan it right, taking into consideration their needs as well as your own and this could be the holiday you will be talking about for the rest of your lives.
